Some moments are captured once and never again.
In the years before the devastating 2019 fire that
changed Notre Dame Cathedral forever, on September 18, 2013 Debbie Gale
stood at the entrance of one of the world's most
sacred and breathtaking structures and raised her
camera. What she captured was extraordinary — an
angel perched atop the ancient woodworking of the
entrance, and below it, the perfect shadow of that
same angel cast across the cathedral's storied arches.
Two angels. One of stone. One of light and shadow.
Her husband Wes — a retired U.S. Army UH-60 Blackhawk
combat pilot, Desert Storm veteran, and fine artist —
took that photograph and transformed it into this
original acrylic painting. Every brushstroke honors
both the sacred architecture of Notre Dame and the
quiet, miraculous moment his wife had the presence
of mind to capture before history changed everything.
This piece exists because of a perfect moment in Paris,
a photographer who recognized beauty when she saw it,
and an artist who knew exactly what to do with it.
Notre Dame has been rebuilt. But this moment — this
exact play of light and shadow, this angel and her
reflection — belongs to a Paris that can never be
fully restored. It lives here now, on canvas, forever.
There is only one of this. When it sells it is gone forever.
